His Excelency Senior Minister Ieng Mouly Leads Interministerial Meeting Seeking Common Ground To Introduce Measures of Response to HIV and AIDS

H.E. Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, led an interministerial meeting to discuss seeking common ground to introduce measures pertaining to response to HIV and AIDS in Cambodia at Cambodiana Hotel on the morning of 26 March 2019.

H.E. Senior Minister recalled the Royal Government’s work activities in combating AIDS in the context where aid funding has declined, requiring the government to shoulder larger and larger financial burden in place of the external financial assistance.

He emphasized to the meeting that although the international community and United Nations have commended our Kingdom of Cambodia for having conducted test to identify HIV infected people, provided therapy to those living with HIV, achieved good treatment results, with recorded coverage rate higher than other various countries worldwide, the work of fighting against AIDS would not be that simple and easy and could be ended in line with planned targets, if the multisectoral coordination work were still unable to support a permanent long-term national stream that helps sustain and orient every citizen and youth towards gaining knowledge, capability, and possibility in all circumstances to protect themselves from HIV infection or from transmitting the virus to their families or other people in accordance with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Decho Hun Sen’s advice.

As Chair of the National AIDS Authority, the Senior Minister invited leading ministry and institution officials as well as ladies and gentlemen, experts representing ministries and institutions, to take part in debating, voicing views, and adopting action plans and mechanisms at this interministerial meeting. This is to allow us to continue coordinating the strategy to combat and respond to HIV and AIDS with phased participation according to specific contexts, divide tasks and responsibilities, and provide support to relevant multisectoral sections or/and institutional sectors at both national and subnational levels, in line with the Royal Government’s concurrence with the HIV and AIDS response measures, as specified in Directive No. 213 S.C.N.S.S dated 21 February 2019.
